ELECTROLUX WINE COOLER

As part of Project Edison, I was selected to redesign the under-counter refrigeration units to pair with the new Electrolux. Among these, the wine cooler was a priority since it would be the first to launch into production for the new Electrolux Line. The goal was to keep the same intuitive and simplistic design while creating a new way to experience wine.

Form Development

When starting to develop the new wine cooler form, I wanted to seamlessly integrate the look of the matching cooking appliances. I aimed to bring the user to the root of the wine experience, the cask where the wine is housed during fermentation. When working on the racks, I took into account both the spacing of bottles and the overall storage capacity to ensure users could store the maximum amount of wine, no matter the bottle type.

One key detail I carried through to this production model was the new handle used throughout the Electrolux suite. To ensure continuity with the suite, I incorporated steel within the rack handle and made it look inviting. Additionally, the hinge was created to guarantee that the unit would not have any air gaps allowing for optimal refrigeration.

This video demonstrates the storage properties of the unit. Wine bottles of many shapes and sizes can be housed, all while keeping the labels pristine.
